Government came to Hong Kong by special train to

bid me farewell. The party attended the launching by lrs. Chan Hing-shu of the S.S. "Tsinan" at Taikoo
Dockyard. This ship has been built by l'essrs.
Butterfield & Swire for the China coastwise trade and
will ply between Canton and Shanghai. It is,
therefore, a fact of some significance that at the present juncture, when the Nanking Government has announced the abolition of extraterritoriality, the
Chairman of the Provincial Government of Kuang-tung should take part in such a ceremony. General Ch'an Ming-shu and his party called on me at Government House at 2 p.m. and had half-an-hour's conversation with me before proceeding to Quarry Bay to launch S.S. "Tsinan". They were accompanied by Mr. G.S. Hoss, His Majesty's Consul-General at Canton. The whole party also dined with me the same evening at Government House, when
covers for eighty guests were laid in the ball-room.

In the course of conversations with I had with them, General Ch'an Ming-shu and the Mayor of Canton, Mr. Lam Wan-k'oi, who since the 1st of January has been in charge of foreign affairs in Kwang-tung, both told me that Generals Li Tsung-jên, Pai Chung-hsi and Cheung Fat-fui are still in Kwangsi province.
